After teaching art for a decade, she left teaching to focus on writing and illustrating children’s books of her own. Her children’s illustrations are mixed media, utilizing pen and ink, guache, watercolor, pastels, colored pencils and collage.

About Mary Scarbrough:

Mary Scarbrough has written more than three dozen books for the educational market, as well as countless teacher guides, student workbooks, and other materials. And all this despite having no teaching experience with kids.

Mary’s preferred age group to write for is the 8-to 12-year-old range, but she’s written for younger and older kids as well. She has worked with U.S., Canadian, and Korean publishers.

Mary enjoys writing for the educational market because she’s always learning something new, the projects are short and thus over before she can get bored, and because she gets paid for her work.
