Ruth Erica

As a child, Ruth wanted to write about Africa. On August 28, her dream came true. Her debut De boom met de bittere bladeren (The Tree with Bitter Leaves) was published by Lemniscaat.

This YA novel is set in Rwanda and deals with the genocide and the fine line between perpetrators and victims. The story is told from the view of 17-year-old Maridadi, who was very young when these events took place. For this story, Ruth was inspired by her study of cultural anthropology, and many trips to Africa for her work in development cooperation. She has frequently blogged about her journey from idea to book at www.rutherica.com. You can also find Ruth at: https://www.facebook.com/ruthericaschrijft and www.instagram.com/ruthericaschrijft
