Commune de Walferdange
1, place de la Mairie - Walferdange, L-7201
On November 16-17, SCBWI Benelux will be participating in Walfer Bicherdeeg, the annual book fair in Luxembourg, and we would like to offer you the opportunity to participate.
What is Walfer Bicherdeeg?
This is one of the biggest cultural events in the Grand Duchy. Each year the ‘Walfer
Bicherdeeg’ (Walferdange Book Days) attract book fans – who come from the four corners of
Luxembourg and the Greater Region – for a good overview of what’s new in literature in the region.
Close to 12,000 visitors each day will pound a path to the ‘Walfer Bicherdeeg’ to spend a weekend
meeting authors, editors, translators, graphic designers and other players in the field of publishing,
and of course to buy new and second-hand books. The presence of publishing houses from
Luxembourg and abroad as well as famous authors and writers, the rich programme of events, the
second-hand book and antiques market, the colourful ‘Books for Kids’, and without forgetting the
many stands of cultural institutions and public benefit organisations make it a complete event for all
tastes and all ages.

Here’s how SCBWI Benelux will be participating:
SCBWI Benelux will have a booth, where we will be promoting SCBWI and our members. This is an opportunity to showcase the work of our writers, illustrators and translators. Members who attend and participate at the booth can display and sell their books. Members who cannot attend are welcome to send a copy of their book(s) for display. We are making a schedule to ensure full coverage of the booth for both Saturday and Sunday and would love to have you participate in this.
The opening hours of the fair are: Saturday 10:30am to 6:00pm, Sunday 10:00am to 6:00pm. Entry to the fair and sign-up for the booth are both free.
Publisher Editions Guy Binsfeld is offering up to six portfolio critiques for our illustrators (booked on a first come, first served basis.) The critiques are at no cost, but we are asking a minimum of two hours of booth time from those who sign up for a critique. The critiques will be on Saturday and Sunday. Please contact us if you are interested or have more questions about the critiques.
Walfer Bicherdeeg organizers are offering a 30-minute timeslot for our writer PAL members to give readings to children visiting the fair. Readings can be in English. If you are interested in applying for a reading slot, please send us the title of your book, the editor’s name, a pdf of the cover, the age range, and a very short synopsis. Maximum reading length: 10 minutes. Deadline for book reading registration is September 13,2019
Finally, we will also use this weekend as a great opportunity to meet socially with each other, and will plan meet-ups for the Saturday and Sunday.
Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2019, and the schedules and critiques will be filled on a first come, first served basis. When you sign up, we will need to know the following:
– Day(s)/times available to be at the SCBWI booth
– Which activities would you like to participate in:
o Drawing/art demonstrations at the booth (illustrators only)
o Book reading of your own book (authors only). Please specify language.
o Portfolio critique with Editions Guy Binsfeld
o Book sales
