THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

With so much uncertainty brought on by COVID-19, many of us are wondering:

What does a pandemic mean for the publishing industry?

Join us for a one-hour Question & Answer session with Joy Bean, Senior Editor at Boyds Mills & Kane to find out. Joy will discuss how the Coronavirus is affecting the publishing world and each step of the publishing process, including the slushpile, acquisitions, editing, printing, distribution, and marketing.

In addition to these topics, participants are welcome to send their questions ahead of time to benelux@scbwi.org (put “Webinar Questions” in subject line), no later than Tuesday, April 28 (one week before the webinar).

As a special benefit, participants will receive an “Above the Slushpile” code to query Joy after the webinar.

Spaces are limited. Participants will receive a Zoom link at least 24 hours before the webinar. If you are unable to attend, a recording of the webinar will be available for two weeks after the live presentation.

——————–

Joy Bean has worked in the publishing industry for more than 20 years and has seen the book world from many perspectives. She’s worked as a bookseller, at both a chain store as well as an independent children’s book store; as a journalist writing about the children’s book industry for Publishers Weekly magazine; and as a children’s book editor at both big and small houses (from Random House to Little Bee). During her editorial career, she has worked on a wide range of children’s books—everything from mass market books featuring licensed characters, nonfiction books aimed at the school and library market, to trade books (picture books, chapter books, & middle grade and YA novels), which is what she’s editing now. In her spare time, you can usually find her reading, or looking for the next book to read.

BOYDS MILLS & KANE is a small, but growing, children’s publishing company with its eye to publishing fiction and nonfiction books for young readers. Under the Boyds Mills Press imprint, we publish everything from picture books to young adult novels. Our goal is to publish books that entertain, inform, and engage children.

BM&K also publishes under three other imprints:

Calkins Creek publishes both nonfiction and historical fiction about events that shaped U.S. history.

Wordsong is the only U.S. imprint dedicated solely to poetry.

Kane Press publishes books aimed at the school and library market. The stories combine stories children want to read with great educational content.
