The act of reading a book is, in itself, a social-emotional experience between the reader and child and/or the reader alone in relationship with the characters. Using literature to support social-emotional curriculum, particularly in the younger grades, is nothing new. It is, however, evolving to include more diverse characters, situations, and conflicts. Books that strengthen social-emotional learning are attractive to educators and parents who want to support their students and children in navigating the complexities of our world. As such, agents and editors are very mindful of this demand.
In this webinar, author Michelle Nott will dive into social-emotional learning:

- –how we, as kidlit creators, can strengthen our stories to be of value to this important learning component.

Bio:
Michelle Nott is a former educator (pre-K to 12, French and Creative Writing), and currently a freelance editor, published poet, and children’s book author. She writes fiction and nonfiction, in prose and verse. She has authored two early readers, Freddy, Hoppie and the Eyeglasses and Dragon Amy’s Flames. Her debut picture book, Teddy Let’s Go!, releases October 11, 2022 from Enchanted Lion Books.
Michelle grew up in the U.S. and has lived in Europe for extended periods of time. She holds American and French citizenship and is bilingual, English and French. Her extensive travel around the U.S., Europe, and Africa fuels her imagination and appreciation for story, art, and world cultures. She now lives in North Carolina, USA with her husband, two daughters, and rescue dog.

Manuscript Consultation Guidelines
Please be sure to read the following very carefully before submitting your manuscript. If you are unsure about anything for the manuscript consultation, please mail us with any questions.
1. You must register for the event before you submit your manuscript.
2. All manuscript submissions must be sent by email to our email address.
3. Your manuscript must ARRIVE in the mailbox ON or BEFORE Friday, December 20, 2022. Manuscripts received after December 20 cannot be accepted.
4. You may submit picture books under 700 words.
5. Format ALL manuscripts in a 12-point Times New Roman font, double spaced, 1-inch margins all around. More formatting questions? Read From Keyboard to Printed Page.
6. ALL manuscript submissions must include a title page with your contact information and the reading level of your manuscript (Picture Book). The title page does NOT count as one of your pages.
7. The name on your manuscript must match the name you registered under, even if you write under a pseudonym.
